Lance Patrick Atkinson

Lance, 22, passed away on February 10, 2020 in Sandy. He was born on July 16, 1997 in Snellville, Georgia, to Kerry and Robyn Atkinson. He was the youngest of five children, and even at a young age had a thirst for knowledge. He taught himself to read at age 4. By the time he was in first grade, he was testing at a sixth grade level in reading. His thirst for knowledge continued throughout his life, teaching himself Japanese. In high school he was involved in every choir class he could take, earning a spot on the Madrigals performance choir. He was also involved in track and yearbook staff. He graduated a year early and went immediately to Salt Lake Community College where he earned an associate's degree in computer science and was awarded Outstanding Student out of the whole computer science department. He then attended the University of Utah where he only had two semesters left before he would earn a bachelor's degree in computer sciences with an emphasis in entertainment, arts and engineering.

Lance had a love for Greek mythology, culture, cats, and '80s J Pop music. He had a passion for video games, his favorite being Animal Crossing. He could speak French and Japanese and wanted to learn Greek as his next language. He was always sharing "Fun Facts" with family and friends. Once he learned something, he never forgot it.

Lance is survived by his parents, Kerry and Robyn (Harker) Atkinson; his siblings, Andrea (Whipple) and Mike McCloy, Ryan and Andrea (Blaney) Whipple, Christopher Atkinson, and Samantha Atkinson; his grandmother, Deanna Chandler; and four nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15th at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East in Draper at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior.
