Kenneth Gerald Kay passed away Thursday morning, 28 December 2017, in his home in Kearns, Utah. Kenneth was born 1 December 1929, son of Darrell Henry Kay and Shell Lavona King, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ken married the love of his life, E. Ranee Jarrett, on 12 January 1952 and they were sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, 5 June 1967. His family was the most important thing in his life and the source of his greatest joy and happiness.
Ken served in the U.S. Navy, attended the U.S. Naval Electronics Material School in San Francisco and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He retired from American Telephone and Telegraph as a communications technician. He also graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor Degree in Zoology.
He played basketball for the University of Utah. He enjoyed golf, tennis, photography, flying, athletics and electronics. Up until the final week before his passing he was still walking four to eight miles a day.
Dad was meticulous in all of his pursuits. He was strong-willed and independent. His top priority was the well-being of his family, friends and neighbors. He served as a ward clerk, gospel doctrine teacher and bishop for the LDS church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughters, Christine Ranee and Cindy.
He is survived by his children, Michael Gerald (Jamie) Kay, Sharon Louise Kay (Scott McKay); three grandchildren, Jonathan Michael (Jenni) Kay, Brian LaMonte Butterfield and Shalice Ann (Joseph) Peterson and one great-granddaughter, Alice Ann Butterfield. His name will be held in loving remembrance for generations to come.
Family and friends may gather at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N, Nephi, UT 84648, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, 6 January 2018.
A graveside service will be held at the Vine Bluff Cemetery, 1200 North 400 East, Nephi, Utah 84648, at 11:30 AM.
