Kathy Lee Shea, age 74, passed away on July 28, 2024, in Murray, UT, surrounded by her family. Born on June 5, 1950, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Patrick and Jackie Shea. She had three beautiful sisters and the four of them were the best of friends. She cherished their relationship and the time they were able to spend together. She spent her childhood and adult life in Midvale, UT making lifelong friends in her ward and neighborhood. She became a single mother to her daughter, Corey, who was the joy of her life and set and accomplished a goal of providing and supporting her daughter on her own. She went back to school when her daughter was young, obtaining her Master’s degree in elementary education and earning straight A’s. She went on to make a profound impact as an educator in her community and was an amazing example of strength, determination, and perseverance to her family.
Kathy dedicated over 30 years to teaching, specializing as a reading and Title 1 Specialist, before retiring on June 13, 2013. Her commitment to education and her ability to inspire a love of learning left an indelible mark on countless young lives.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kathy's faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and interactions.
Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Kathy was the best example of selfless love and support to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Corey Kener (Steve); granddaughters, Rylee Ruybal (Hayden) and Avery Kener; grandsons, Jackson and Cooper Kener; sisters, Margaret Harris (Dennis), Marilyn Wilkes (Michael), Patrica Ralls (Rick); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Jackie Shea.
Kathy's hobbies included crocheting, reading, shopping on QVC, and getting her nails done the same shade of purple every time. She loved making beautiful baby blankets, and made them for all the babies in the family. One of her favorite things to do was being an enthusiastic supporter at her grandchildren's various activities. Her presence at games, performances, and family gatherings was always highlighted by her spirited cheerleading, clumsiness, and crazy dancing. She was small and sassy and always made us laugh!
Goff Mortuary in Midvale, UT, is assisting the family during this time. The family would also love to thank the amazing nurses at IMC. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 2nd, from 6pm to 8pm. A celebration of life for close friends and family will follow on Saturday, August 3rd. We would love to see you in her favorite color, purple.
Kathy's kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit touched all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she has left behind. We love you mom and grandma, to the moon and back forever!
