Kathryn Eileen Despain

Kathryn Eileen Holden Despain passed away in her sleep at home on January 9, 2018 in Sandy, Utah.  Kathy was born December 10, 1952 in Martinez, California to Wayne Marble Holden and Gladys Marie Langley.  Her family moved to San Francisco, California while her father was in dental school.  She then attended schools in Flagstaff, Arizona where her father set up his dental practice and served as Bishop and as a member of the Stake Presidency for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kathy was a lifelong member of the LDS church.

After high school, Kathy graduated from beauty school in Provo, Utah and worked as a beautician in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She married Robert Lon Despain in Provo, Utah. They later divorced.  Their son, Robert Nicholas Despain was born October 10, 1978.  Besides being mother to "Nick," she was a mother to many of Nick's friends.  They called her "Mom" and their home was always open to them.  Kathy was also a "momma" to numerous cats and dogs throughout her life.  Anyone who knew Kathy was familiar with her love of animals.  She also loved to read and enjoyed Mexican food.  Nick married Summer Daynes and they were blessed with a son, Robert LaVaur Daynes-Despain on April 4, 2016.  Kathy would talk for hours about her grandson.  There was nothing she was more proud of than "Bobby."

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Gladys Holden; an older brother, Gary Wayne Holden, who passed away at 5 months and her first niece, Tamra Mirae Lee Jensen.

Kathy is survived by son Nick Despain (Summer and son Bobby) of Sandy, Utah; stepson Bryant Despain (daughters Kayla Helms and Alexis Despain) of Utah; stepson Randy Despain (daughters Brandee and Leiah Despain) of Utah; several step-great- grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Lee (Grant) of Idaho; niece, Stephanie Higgins (Travis) of Idaho, and nephews Ryan Lee (Lyndee) of Arizona; Rick Lee (Cheryl) of Maryland; Scott Lee of Utah; and Jason Lee (Bergen) of Idaho.  Kathy considered her special friends Diane Tiemann and Judith Daynes (deceased) as her "adopted sisters."

Graveside service is at Sandy City Cemetery, Sandy, Utah, Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11 am.
