Kathryn V. Dethloff Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 9, 1921, to Erwin and Barbara Dethloff. She was the oldest of two children, a younger brother named Jerry Dethloff preceded her in death.
Kay, as she was called, eventually settled with her parents in the Los Angeles, California area. After graduating from high school, Kay was attending a dance on Catalina Island (off the California coast) and met her future husband, Ulysses S. Brown. The two married in July of 1942 while her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. They eventually were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
The couple built their home in Whittier, California, where they raised their two daughters, Janice L. Brown Blackmer and Donna L. Emerson Brown. They later settled in Bountiful, Utah.
Kay outlived her family - daughter Donna died in 1985, her husband in 2006, and lastly her daughter Janice in 2018. Kay passed away three months later at the Legacy Care Center in South Jordan, Utah surrounded by some close friends and son-in-law, on July 22, 2018.
Kay served in many callings in the LDS Church. She made many friends wherever she lived. Kay was a very pretty and gracious lady. She loved her husband and daughters dearly. She will be missed by all.
Her services will be held in Whittier, California at the Rose Hills Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
