Karolyn Sue Dana

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Karolyn Sue Dana left this world peacefully on July 18, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with lupus.  Her indomitable strength served her well throughout life and in her final hours.  The family would like to thank all of those who tenderly cared for her, many of whom acknowledged her grace and gratitude throughout her struggle, especially in the last few weeks.  Anyone who was privileged to know her was the grateful recipient of her genuine love and thoughtfulness, unfailing loyalty, fun-loving spirit, and charitable acts.

Karolyn was born August 24, 1947 in Tempe, Arizona to Merrill Delbert Tyler and Colleen Rose Shumway.  The oldest of three children, she was both a daddy's girl and, as the only daughter, her mother's best friend.  She enjoyed her childhood with her brothers, Rick and Marco, who both readily agree that she was the "belle of the ball."   She attended Arizona State University where she met her true love, Stephen Carlos Dana, at a dance.  They married February 21, 1966 and danced their way through life, creating a beautiful love story for nearly 52 years.  They loved to travel, cook, entertain, and more than anything, be with their family.

Together they raised nine children who each felt all of their selfless and unconditional love.  Her children were blessed with her constant care and attentive support.  Her family was her life and meant everything to her.  She thrived on planning family get togethers and attending countless dance recitals, ball games, plays, and every important life event.

Her legacy includes her husband, Stephen, her children: Kevin (Carlos Cabarcos), Stacy Packard (Shawn), Todd, Shelly Thomas (Mark), Troy (Courtney), Trent (Danielle), Kendra Hales (Ryan), Jarin (Taci), and Kortney Keisel (Kurt). She was an amazing mother and grandmother and would do anything for any of her 33 "grand babies" whom she treasured.  Her family was her proudest accomplishment.  She will be incredibly missed by all.

We will honor her life at 11am, on Saturday, July 22nd at the Corner Canyon 9th Ward, 13006 S Boulter Street (1480 E), Draper, UT.  A viewing will be held from 6-8pm on Friday evening at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East in Draper, and from 9-10:30am on Saturday prior to the service at the church.  The family looks forward to celebrating Karolyn's life with all those who loved her.
