Karen Baldwin

Phyllis Karen Baldwin was born December 25th, 1949 in French Camp, California. After surviving a traumatic and extremely difficult childhood, by the age of 19, Karen was on her own with two children to support. The three of them lived a modest life in California, with Karen working extremely hard to support her two children. During her lifetime, she developed many interests, including riding motorcycles, painting, home improvement, truck driving, and fixing cars. Karen was truly extraordinary with what she was able to accomplish in her lifetime.

When Karen was 44 years old, she had a near death experience. After the near death experience, she was blessed with mediumship and clairvoyance. She used these gifts to help many people in her lifetime with compassion, gratitude, and grace. During her time as a medium, she was helped people connect with their loved ones, as well as, helping to solve ongoing criminal investigations and appeared on the television show "Ghost Hunters."

Karen always had a smile and kind word for everyone. She gave away compliments like candy, but with sincerity and honesty. Karen was also blessed with a great sense of humor, and smiled and laughed continuously throughout the day. Always willing to find the best in people, she walked the path of light in a truly profound way.

Karen will be remembered for a great number of things. Her legacy of compassion, willingness to help, and laughter will not be easily forgotten by those she loved. May we all strive to be more like Karen, even if it's just a little bit every day.

Karen is survived by her daughter Kim (Bob) Goodsell, granddaughter McKenna, McKenna's father Doug Liddiard, brother Tony Souza, sister Velta Disch and family, and her niece Opal Bates and family. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin, sister Almeta and parents Opal and Tony, as well as her very close soul sister and best friend Jan Miller.

To mom's soul family, Jaylene, Barb and Dennis, Wayne and Patty, Leslie and Gretchen, Anne and Jason, I can never repay you for your kindness, friendship, love and support of Karen. Mom so loved you all and was so happy to have another outlet for her spiritual side, you all understood her on another level. Thank you for extending that love and support to me now.

BFF Janet, you know how much mom loved you too. Thank you for getting her out of her meat and potatoes rut and getting her to try so many other wonderful foods. Especially since she just 'had myself a really big lunch' on those days you made her try it! I never thought I would hear my mom say 'Kimmie, wanna go have Thai for lunch?'

Phil, Mom so loved and adored you too. I will hold and treasure in my heart you and Mary coming over and having Christmas dinner with us. Mom so enjoyed that day and spoke of it often. Thank you for your support as well. It really made things easier on mom.

Leslie, WOW, the experiences you and mom had! Thank you for all you have done over the last 19 years! You always tried to make things easier on mom and for mom. Thank you for getting mom up on current technology! I want to say with the most heartfelt gratitude, thank you for being here for me too. The late-night talks in the hospital and on the phone made the time easier for me.

Melody, thank you for spoon feeding mom when she became too weak, prior to the second transplant. Your constant care and love also extended mom's life.

To doctors Barbara Cahill and Sanjeev Raman, lung transplant coordinators Tauni (Tahna) and Kelly. Thank you so very, very much for your excellent care and extending mom's life another 16.5 years!

Dr. Phil Isenberg, Mom really loved and respected you and looked forward to your 'visits'- almost as if she was happy to be under the weather. Thank for your gentle ways and being so patient with her.

To the entire MICU staff and especially nurses Hannah, Jen and Jen. Thank you for your excellent care, skill, love and compassion to us both. You all really made this whole awful experience easier for Mom and I. The late-night chats and laughs were needed and welcomed.

Services will be held at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, UT 84020. Viewings will be Friday, January 17 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, January 18 from 12-12:45 p.m., with services starting at 1 p.m.
