June "left the surly bonds of earth" on the 17th day of December 2020. Leaving the bonds of earth she insisted would be her obituary after she received a certificate from her first hot air balloon ride over the Grand Tetons in Wyoming.
June was born June 15, 1929, the daughter of John Werner and Helga Forsnes Holmes. She grew up in Bingham Canyon, Utah, attended the Copperfield Grade School and graduated from the Bingham High School. She attended the University of Nevada at Reno where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/English.
She worked at Kennecott Copper as a writer for the company magazine called the KENNESCOAPE as well as the Industrial Relations department. While at the mine, she met and married William Denn Garrity who preceded her in death. June is survived by her son John William Garrity (Robin), and grandson Evan James. She also is survived by her cousins Victor G. Forsnes of Idaho and William Stanley Merriken of Montana and Califiornia.
Following her husband's death June worked at the Liberty Elementary School in Murray where she and her husband built their home. During that period June and her son John spent the summers traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Scandinavia and cruising the Caribbean on the Nordic Prince which touched on Venezuela and the islands of Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Martinque, Haiti and the American Virgin Islands. She and her son also traveled to New York for the Christmas holidays and to San Antonio for New Years. After her son's marriage, June went to China on a tour with the alumni from the University of Nevada touring extensively and walking on the Great Wall. She was joined by her college friend and sorority sister.
As June's son went on to college, she became a publisher of a four-color magazine called "The Flying Fish" for which she won a gold achievement award from the Utah Advertising Assn. Later became a member of the Marketing Dept. at LIBRA Corp where she wrote and designed marketing materials. After being semi-retired she held many office managerial positions and ultimately became an English Tutor helping foreign students read, write and speak English.
June has written several books in the fiction/romantic genre which can be found on the internet at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and other places.
June loved the outdoors and loved skiing and golf. Besides loving to travel, she enjoyed photography. June was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, the Order of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and Grand Officer and president of her local Gamma Phi alumni chapter. She was honored by her high school and made a member of the "Pay Dirt" club.
A direct burial will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens on December 21, 2020. A memorial service to celebrate June's life will be held later in the spring through Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
