Joyce Jackson Stuker

Joyce Jackson Stuker passed away on March 14, 2025 (Pi Day). She was born on July 9, 1933 in Fountain Green, Utah to George C. Jackson and Ethel Draper Jackson. She was raised in Midvale Utah with her 7 older siblings. She spent her summers at her dad’s sheep ranch in Soldier Summit, Utah. There she had the responsibility of bottle feeding and helping to raise little bum lambs.

Joyce married her sweetheart, Earl Stuker, on December 4, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Joyce and Earl raised their three children in Taft, California and Midvale, Utah.

She is survived by her husband, Earl, and their three children Lora (Joe) Morley, Grant (Joi) Stuker and Sonia (Steven) Nielsen, her 10 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Little Joyce was a very precocious child with a funny personality and vivid imagination. Her parents sent her to elocution lessons at age 5 where she discovered her love of performing.

She attended kindergarten for six weeks where she quickly learned to read. She was then placed in a special reading program just for her in the first grade.

She had many lifelong friends that she met as a young girl, with whom she went through high school. They continued to get together monthly at “Club” well into their nineties.

She was a student body officer at Jordan High school. She loved being in plays and performing in skits throughout her life. She was a gifted writer and wrote many plays, musicals and songs. She also loved being a director and directed many plays.

She met her sweetheart, Earl, at BYU in early 1953. He came to her apartment to learn how to dance the “Salt Lake Drag” from her roommate Marilyn. It just so happened Marilyn wasn’t home and Joyce knew the dance. They went to the Sock Hop that weekend and have been together ever since. They loved to dance and continued to go to dances whenever they could. They could have been on Dancing with the Stars!

She worked many years for a professional bookkeeping company. She enjoyed this job a lot, but preferred being a mom and homemaker. She loved to scrapbook early on in her life and continued to keep mementos from all occasions, especially greeting cards and dance cards. She loved watching BYU sports and cheered louder than anyone. She loved to support the arts and cinema by attending Hale Center Theater and Jordan Commons Megaplex Movie Theater. One of her favorite things to do was to gather friends and family to play card games and dominos. She was also known for her fabulous homemade apple pie. She had many requests through the years to make them and send on camping trips with Earl and his friends whether Earl went or not.

She served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her favorite callings were Relief Society president and companion to Earl while serving in the London South Mission.

The family would like to thank the Sagewood Care Center at Daybreak and all those who had the opportunity to serve and meet Joyce while she was there. A special thank you to her wonderful Hospice nurse Cassie and her Hospice Aide Carly.

All visitors to Joyce’s home through the years, would always be greeted by the scent of fresh cut roses that she grew in her yard. Those she loved would always go home with a handful of roses she cut just for you. In Lieu of sending flowers, please plant a rose bush in your yard or in the yard of a loved one and as it grows think of Joyce and her love of roses.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:45 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am at the Goff Mortuary located at 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah.
