Joyce Short

Joyce Bishop Short (65) passed away peacefully at her son's home in Herriman, Utah on Friday, October 14, 2016 after a sudden diagnosis of aggressive cancer. Her final days were spent laughing, joking and reminiscing with her family and friends. She was born August 14, 1951 in Provo, Utah to Ralph and Eva Bishop. She married Edward L. Short May 18, 1973 in the Provo Temple, and they built their life together in Sandy, Utah.

Joyce enjoyed life with her children. She was a wonderful mother and caring friend-strong, spunky, generous and creative. She had many talents she shared with others like crafting, sewing and cooking. She loved family gatherings and was always the life of the party. She loved to read, do word puzzles and play Candy Crush. Joyce worked for many years as a school aid for the Jordan School District (now Canyons) at Park Lane Elementary, and loved working with children. Her favorite job title was "grandmother," and spent every chance she could with her grandkids.

Joyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has had many callings through the years. She loved serving others and was always kind to everyone she met.

Joyce is survived by her husband Edward; her sons David Short (Kristen), James Short (Emily), Bobby Short (Adrienne) and Billy Short (Emily); her grandchildren Lilly, Carter, Addisyn, Kaden and Liam; her siblings Anita Thorpe (Mike), Paul Bishop (Pam) and Ken Bishop. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Mary Backus.

Although her time on earth was cut short, we were blessed to have her sparkle in our lives. She will be missed here, but welcomed with great joy from loved ones who have been waiting for her with open arms.

Our family would like to thank IMC Medical Center and Quality Home Health & Hospice Services for the excellent medical treatment she received. Also a special thank you to family, friends and neighbors for all the support and prayers offered on her behalf.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Crescent Park 5th Ward Chapel, 11350 South 1300 East, Sandy, Utah 84094. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A viewing will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah 84020.
