Our dearest Joyce Baker passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017. Joyce was born April 9, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence James (Bill) Gawan and Helen Francis Ryser Gawan. She had one brother Clarence James Gawan Jr. (Will).

Joyce grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended Jackson Elementary, Jackson Junior High, graduated from West High School and Steven's Henager Business School. She worked as a legal secretary until she married Peter L. Baker, Aug. 5, 1948. They were blessed with three children who they raised in Holladay, Utah. After her children were grown, Joyce worked for Salt Lake Stamp Company until her retirement in 1993.

Joyce was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family, making many wonderful memories. She often said, "Friends are wonderful, but there's nothing like your family."

Joyce will be sorely missed, but the memories that she made will last forever.

Joyce is survived by daughter Bonnie Carter (Steve); son Kelly (Jane); grandchildren Nicole Wheatley (Seth), Heather Staley (Luke), Zach Carter, Tyson Carter (Kristen), Colette Collins (Russ), Lacee Jewkes, C.J. Baker, and Stephanie Fullmer (Isaac); and great-grandchildren Carter and Claire Wheatley, Tate and Crew Staley, Bennett and Norah Collins, and Avery Fullmer. Preceded in death by parents Bill and Helen Gawan, brother Will, Pete Baker, daughter Kathy B. Jewkes, and granddaughter Courtney Jewkes.

Viewing will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper. Graveside service will follow viewing at 2:30 p.m., and will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
