Joyce LaRae Dunn Dahl

Joyce LaRae Dunn Dahl, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Born on March 11, 1928, in Midvale, Utah, to Kenneth V. Dunn and Vera Whetman Dunn, Joyce lived her entire life in Midvale. She developed a great appreciation for the city and its history. She shared her knowledge and love of community through involvement in volunteer activities including service committees and the Midvale Museum. Joyce also had a great love for her country and regularly contacted and shared opinions with elected representatives.

Joyce graduated from Jordan High School, attended University of Utah and Brigham Young University before marrying Kenneth Page Dahl on June 10, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union was blessed with four children. Joyce was a FABULOUS Mother.

With the heart of a teacher, Joyce worked at Midvale Elementary for 32 years as a Title One Aid teaching children to read and do math. She also tutored and taught piano lessons from her home.

Joyce lived a life of love and service to neighbors, friends, and family. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a firm testimony of the divinity of her Savior Jesus Christ. She served in numerous capacities including Relief Society President, Young Woman President and Primary music leader for many years. She also was a Church Service Missionary and a temple ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple.

Joyce had a zest for life. Decorating for every holiday was a particular joy to her. She enjoyed having parties on her patio with friends and family. She loved reading, gardening, driving to the mountains, and being with friends and family.

Joyce was a “people person”. She cared deeply. She made everyone feel welcome, seen, and valued. Her determination and strength of character were a welcome gift to many. Family connections spanned multiple generations as Joyce followed the lives of her many cousins and their children who loved their Aunt Joyce. To know her was to love her.

Joyce’s influence will continue to live on as she positively affected so many people throughout her life. She is survived by her children Linda Larson (Rodney), Karen McCleery (Duane), Brent Kenneth Dahl (Shirley) and Michelle Hansen. She also has 20 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 17 bonus grandchildren. Her posterity numbers over one hundred fifty-six!

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dahl, her parents, Vera and Ken Dunn, brothers, Richard and Robert Dunn, and great-grandson Keagan Dahl.
