Johnny Burton Wood passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife, children, sister and grandchildren, on the morning of December 6, 2014. Born April 6, 1947, in Heber City, Utah to Jontz Burton Wood and Dorothy Mae Kummer.
John graduated from Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah in 1965, where he excelled in football and other sports. He honorably served his country as a member of the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He worked for the Utah Department of Transportation where he met Gayle Hogan, who would become his wife of 42 years. John and Gayle married in West Valley City, Utah on June 9, 1972.
John lived a life full of hard work and service to others. He was a dedicated husband and father who always thought of others before himself. He was a well known and loved coach to many basketball and football players. His outgoing and friendly nature, as well as his sense of humor will be missed.
John leaves behind his wife Gayle, his children Jennifer (Gary), Stacey, Ryan (Jamie), and Lisa; also his oldest sister Kathy DeWitt (Lloyd), and 9 beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Brittany, Mackenzie, Ashley, Mason, Seth, Madeleine, Olivia and Abigail.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Glenmoor 2nd Ward, 9455 South 4800 West, with a viewing at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
