Joe W. Hansen

Joe W. Hansen, 82, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend passed away May 2, 2017 in his Sandy home surrounded by his family. He was born July 5, 1934 in Sandy, Utah to Wilford and Esther Hansen. He married Susie Hand on Dec. 10, 1951 in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Hunting was a big part of Joe's life. He loved hunting with his sons and good friends. He loved to fish. Every summer he fished the Provo River for big browns until dark.

Joe was a self-employed stone mason. His work can be seen all throughout the valley. He was an artist and a perfectionist in all of his stone work. Some of his known carvings include work on the Salt Lake City and County building restoration 1989, as well as the Salt Lake Temple Annex 1964.

Joe was a lifelong member of A.A., which became his extended family. He loved singing and ballroom dancing. Each year Joe planted and cared for a beautiful garden and enjoyed sharing his tomatoes with others. He loved to raise and sell rabbits, particularly tiny Netherland Dwarfs. Joe had a wicked sense of humor that only those who knew him well understood best.

Joe loved all of his family very much and he was loved by them as well.

Survived by wife, Susie, children Joe Stewart Hansen (Debbie), Glenn Hansen, David Hansen, Virginia Haugh (Jim), Mark Hansen (Jeanette), and Ann Hansen; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and brother Bruce Hansen. Preceded in death by daughter Geneve, sister Barbara, brother Weston, mother Esther and father Wilford.

The family would like to thank IHC hospice for their wonderful care.

Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at the Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East. All are invited.
