It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, JoAnn R. Kay, at the age of 84 years. She passed away on the morning of Saturday March 8, 2025. She was a proud resident of Mona, Utah for many decades and will be missed by her loving family, neighbors, and friends.
She was born on September 1, 1940 to Arnold Delin and Martha Bernice Rosenlund in Eureka, Utah. To think of JoAnn one would instantly know of her love of animals, especially horses. She bought her first horse as a young girl by saving her lunch money. Throughout her life she surrounded herself with them and raised a quite a few with her husband Larry Kay. In 1959 she was the Queen of the 25th Annual Ute Stampede in Nephi. And there was always a dog and/or cat somewhere in the picture too. She also loved sewing, canning and crafting as she raised her children. She taught 4-H and attended the county fair and Ute Stampede Rodeo nearly every year. She and Larry spent a great deal of time riding and training their horses.
She attended Tintic High School in Eureka and graduated in 1958. She was a cheerleader her senior year. The day after graduation she moved to Nephi. Her favorite career position was when she worked at the Mona Post Office. But afterwards from there she worked at the Juab Middle School as a custodian and later transferred to Mona Elementary School.
She married Larry Vance Kay on August 21, 1959. Together they adopted their three children. She is survived by her daughters, Jodi (Jeff) Chase, Kimberlee (Daris) Lindgren, her son Rodney Kay, Her grandchildren Jordan Chase, Kassie Kay, Jacob Chase and her great granddaughter, Ruby Espinosa. Also surviving is her sister Alice Jensen. She is preceded in death by her husband Larry. Her sister Connie Ostler, her brothers, Robert (Bob) Rosenlund, Elbert Rosenlund and Larry Rosenlund and her grandson Ryan Kay.
Viewing is scheduled at the LDS Church in the relief society room at 65 E 100 N, in Mona Utah on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 10:30 to 12:30. Graveside services will be at the Mona Cemetery at 1:00.
