Jimmy Dean Jessop, age 65, of Herriman, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on November 8th, 2023. He courageously faced glioblastoma, diagnosed in March of this year, with unwavering strength and grace.
Jim was born on December 21, 1957 in Salt Lake City. He was the beloved son of Cloyd and Beth Jessop, and grew up in Bountiful, Utah. His childhood years were filled with lots of laughter, love and fond memories that shaped Jim into the incredible person he was.
A passionate and dedicated individual, Jim immersed himself in various pursuits throughout his life. Jim graduated from Viewmont High School with the class of '76. His high school days were marked by his love for soccer, where he not only played but also served as the spirited school mascot. His commitment to the sport continued as he went on to coach both his children's soccer teams for many memorable years.
On June 7, 1978, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Valerie White, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple, creating a foundation of love and family that would endure beyond this lifetime. Their mutual love of sports, infectious laughter, endearing personalities and desire to help and serve others, made them the perfect match. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Ryan and Melissa, where sports were a big part of their pastimes.
After graduating from the University of Phoenix with a degree in architecture, Jim embarked on a fulfilling journey in the construction industry working many years with Gough Construction and then with Holiday Oil where he devoted his professional life. Jim had great pride in the work he did and loved the people he got to interact with each day.
A man of deep faith, Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, holding various callings that reflected his commitment to service and community.
Beyond his professional and community commitments, Jim found solace and joy in pursuits such as golf, hunting, and the art of crafting things with his hands. However, his greatest source of happiness was always the time spent with his family.
Jim was a devoted husband, father and Papa. He was the happiest when his 2 children and four grandchildren were surrounding him. Survived by wife Valerie Jessop, his son Ryan Jessop (Teiann Jessop), and daughter Melissa Forsyth (Brian Forsyth), and grandchildren Taylor, Chase, Rowan, Rhett, and his siblings Randy (Pam), Carl (Chris), Peggy (Jeff), Pattie (Jerry). He was preceded in death by his parents Cloyd and Beth Jessop and his brother Kevin.
