Jewel Wenerstrom

Jewel Maxine Allen Wenerstrom, 90, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.

Jewel was born on October 4, 1927 to Harold Edson and Viola Hansen Allen in Salt Lake City, UT.  She graduated from West High School in the Class of 1944.  She married the love of her life, Jack Loraine Wenerstrom on August 5, 1950.  Together they had 3 children: Alan (Lee), Boyd (Kevin) and Wendy.

Jewel loved children and worked as a teacher's assistant at Midvale Elementary for 22 years (1971 - 1993).  After retiring, Jewel volunteered at Jordan Valley School, where her and Jack were honorary grandparents to the children who were so dear to their hearts.  She was also an extremely talented seamstress, creating anything from Christmas stockings to elaborate drapery.

Jewel is survived by her son, Alan (Connie) Wenerstrom; her daughter, Wendy Bills; daughter-in-law, Lori Wenerstrom; 7 grandchildren (Amanda, Natalie, Jake, Brent, Dusti, Nicole and Joel); 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marie Ulrich.

She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Jack L. Wenerstrom; her son, Boyd K. Wenerstrom; her parents and her brother, Glen Allen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Silverado Care Center for the outstanding care they provided.

A celebration of Jewel's life will be held February 2, 2018 at 12:00 pm in the church located at 308 West 6th Avenue (7500 S).  Family and friends may call prior to services from 10:30 to 11:45 am.  Interment to follow at Midvale City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ).
