Jerrold Alfred Sabey

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Jerrold Alfred Sabey on September 18, 2024 with his wife and children by his side. Jerrold was born in Murray, UT on December 2, 1945 to Alfred John (Jay) and Bertha Lind Sabey. Jerrold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. His influence reached many and his kindness and love will be missed. Jerrold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jerrold loved life and found joy in the journey. As a young boy he found a love for sports and played baseball and football for many years. He also loved being outdoors with his family. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with his father and shared his love for the outdoors with his own family. Throughout his life he was an avid BYU sports fan, some may even say the biggest. There were not many things he enjoyed more than a Saturday afternoon at Cougar (now LaVell Edwards) Stadium watching his Cougars with his family.

Jerrold was kind to all who knew him. He enjoyed service and helping others. He always had other’s best interest before his own. On first appearance he could appear stern but once you got past that he was just a big teddy bear. His “teddy bear” persona came out the most when he was around his grandkids. Grandpa was known as the “candy man” by some and “money bags” by others. His cane frequently became a lightsaber or a baseball bat. His walker turned into a racecar. He knew just how to make sure they all felt special. Each one thinks they are his favorite. It was touching to see how even as his physical health was declining he still found significant ways to engage in their lives and let them know that he loved them.

Jerrold was a devoted husband and father. He married his sweetheart, Linda Nay, on August 24, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and together they had five children. His wife and children were his most important priority. He would do anything for Linda and her happiness was his number one priority. Jerrold and Linda were married for 53 years and it is his belief that she was the best decision he ever made. It was always his desire to spend as much time with his children as he could. He found ways to connect by coaching their youth sports teams, playing ball with them in the yard, and attending all the games, recitals, and events that he could, and sharing his testimony with them. He found so much joy in their accomplishments.

Jerrold is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Bertha Sabey, his daughter, Megan (stillborn), his brother, Wayne (Marie), and his twin sister, Janice (Brent), as well as his grandparents and several cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sabey, sons, Brian (Kerri), Laine (Heidi), Aaron (Amy), his daughter, Kristilynn (Wade), and sister, Linda (Lee), as well as 19 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren with another on the way.

A viewing will be held at the LDS church building at 663 W 400 N in Saratoga Springs, UT from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Saturday, September 21st followed by funeral services in the chapel at 11:00 am. An interment will follow at the Midvale City Cemetery.
