Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend, Jeffrey Alan Dexter, peacefully returned to Heaven on the morning of November 7, 2024, after struggling with multiple medical conditions. Jeff was born on July 13, 1955, in Vernal, Utah, to Jack and June Dexter, becoming the sixth of seven children. At the age of three, his family relocated to Minnesota, where he grew up and completed his high school education. He enjoyed being a part of a young men’s group that traveled extensively. Trips to Canada and church history sites, were among the activities he loved. During High School, he competed in track and field, wrestling, and cross country. The Dexters returned to Salt Lake City, Utah, marking a significant transition in Jeff's life.
Jeffrey held various jobs as a chef at several restaurants. He loved working at Rick Warner Ford, where he had fun delivering vehicles to out-of-state dealerships. It was during one of these trips that he experienced flying for the first time. In 1978, he was hired on as an operator at Mountain Bell. Over the course of 35 years, he advanced through various accounting positions, ultimately retiring in 2013.
In 1977, while employed at Gene Fullmer's Restaurant, Jeffrey met Victoria, who would become the love of his life. Their bond culminated in marriage on December 2, 1978, and a year later, they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they raised a beautiful family, blessed with five children: three daughters and two sons. For Jeff, spending quality time with his family was his utmost joy, and his love for them was evident in all aspects of his life. He loved making memories through traditions, travel, family gatherings, and daily life.
In addition to his family, Jeffrey had a range of interests that enriched his life. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, hiking, coaching and refereeing soccer, and watching Western films. Jeff delighted in cooking breakfast for his family, which was a highlight of General Conference Sundays. His famous chocolate chip cookies were a cherished treat at many family gatherings.
Soccer became a large part of Jeff’s life when his daughters started to play competitively. Jeff started by coaching them. As time passed, he became a referee and continued that side job over the next 20-plus years. This involvement allowed him to cultivate lasting friendships with many wonderful people.
Jeffrey is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jack and June, his siblings Jay and Judi. He is survived by his devoted wife, Victoria, and their children Christy (Kyle) Colbert, Alesha (Samuel) Gudmundson, Angela (Brent) Tenney, Ryan Dexter, Spencer Dexter. Siblings Jerry Dexter, Joy Hansen, Janet Baldwin, and Jill Richey. Grandchildren The Colbert’s Kaidin, Kaelum, Kaylynn, and Kayle. The Gudmundson’s Skyler, William, Emma, and Olivia. The Tenney’s Kimberly, Lawrence, McKinley, and Nolana.
A viewing will be held in his honor at the Country Crossing 4th Ward building 11122 S. Black Hawk Drive, South Jordan, Utah, on November 16, 2024, from 9:45 to 11:45 AM, with a Funeral to follow at noon. A graveside service will be held immediately following at South Jordan Cemetery.
