December 2, 1938 — January 14, 2022

Jean Louise Nielson

Jean Louise Grand-Pre Nielson passed away on January 14, 2022 in Kearns surrounded by family.

Jean was born on December 2, 1938 in Los Angeles, California to Lucy Sophia Mork and Edgar Vincent Grand-Pre. She grew up in Salt Lake City. She graduated from South High and the University of Utah.

Jean married Leon O. Nielson. They lived in Sandy for 59 of their 61 years together. Jean was always Leon's Bride, and he loved to take care of her.

Jean and Leon made many memories with their children in Jean's favorite place, the Uintas. Family vacations to a variety of destinations are treasured memories for all of us.

An artist at heart, Mom created things every day. She was always busy using her talents to do good and enjoyed sharing her knowledge in an endless variety of visual ways. Christmas was her particular delight, and she worked on making gifts and ornaments throughout the year.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings, from Sunday School coordinator, to primary chorister,  to a counselor in the stake Relief Society presidency.

Mom is survived by her loving husband, Leon. Their children: Byron L. (Miriam) Nielson; Rebecca L. (Vincent) Bellon; Heather N. Apple; Noelle Nielson; and Wendy Nielson. Their grandchildren: Dallin L. Nielson; Hugh Nielson; Camille L. (Robert) Bullock; Caitlin J. (David) Steele; Briana D. Bellon; Spencer L. Bellon; David M. (Clarissa) Apple; Jacob R. (Haley) Apple; and Samuel J. Apple. Their 6 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Summit Senior Living Memory Care Center, especially Elizabeth Muro and the Nayas; and Canyon Home Care and Hospice, particularly Dane Woodward for their gentle, careful care of Mom.

Viewing will be on Monday, 1/24, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Goff Mortuary at 8090 S.
