Jean Esther Koford

Jean passed away May 18, 2020 and was the last of the family to return to Heavenly Father. What a reunion and celebration there will be as she joins her many loved ones.

On January 6, 1931, Jean made her debut to this earth. She was born and raised in Sandy, Utah, the third and youngest child of August LeRoy Johnson and Mary Esther Gunnerson Johnson. She grew up on her parents' 22 acre farm. She wasn't afraid to get dirty and would rather be out helping her father than learning to sew or cleaning the house with her mother and sister. Jean loved working outdoors and playing with the barnyard creatures including the horses Ben & Jerry, her duck Donald, her pet goat (that could even climb a ladder) and the many cats. She loved the year the piglets were born on her birthday.

Jean was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She attended Jordan High School and had to walk a long way to school. Sometimes Gene Fullmer would walk her home.

Jean was very proud of her time working at Hotel Utah. She lied about her age and didn't tell that she lived way out in Sandy. While working at Hotel Utah she met tall, dark, handsome Ross Emerson Koford. They married September 4, 1953. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1969. Jean was such a fun mother to her boys. She took them skiing, camping, pine nut hunting and many wonderful vacations with the motorhomes and boats.

Preceded in death by parents, sister Ruth Atwood and brother Marvin LeRoy Johnson.

Jean left behind five sons that she idolized: Terry (Robyn), Gary (Karen), Mike (Tracy), Guy (Franke-deceased), Kelley (Toni). She has 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She loved her family very much and always wanted to be with them.

Jean was always ready for an adventure and always wanted to plan her next trip with her family. She owned several cabins over the years. Her happiest times were at the cabin.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Sandy City Cemetery.
