Neona Jean Johnston Fillerup, beloved wife and mother, left this life on April 16, 2021, to be joyfully reunited with her husband Gary, and their son Allen, who passed away at age 6.
Jean married Gary Allen Fillerup, her high school sweetheart, shortly after her graduation. The two were married for 59 years until his death in 2015 and were deeply devoted to one another. They had seven children and worked conscientiously to provide a home filled with faith, love, and fun.
Our mom was very clever and was able to extend the life of items by repairing them. She was an excellent seamstress and took a variety of classes to learn skills such as upholstering and tole painting. She was constantly learning and working to increase her knowledge and sufficiency.
She was a diligent volunteer over the years, serving as PTA President, as a Salt Lake County poll worker, and by teaching children to read through local literacy programs. She loved family history and indexed thousands of records during her lifetime. She also served in several capacities for her faith.
Mom, thank you for teaching us the importance of proper grammar and spelling. We will miss your use of the number 40,000 in all your exaggerations. We love you and look forward to seeing you again. We are glad we came to your house.
Jean is survived by six of her children: Jeanne (Ron) Cushing, Susan (Tom) Dunford, Sandra (Bryon) McGregor, Beth (Dominic Roques) Fillerup, Linda (Colin) Cook, and Jesse (Brenna) Fillerup; 23 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
We express our greatest thanks to the staff at Spring Gardens and to Jamie, her hospice nurse, for providing her excellent care. Thank you for offering mom comfort and warmth, particularly during COVID.
