Janice Phillips

Janice Elaine Abbott Phillips, 77, passed away on Oct. 19, 2017, after a long battle with scleraderma and heart failure. She was born in Portland, Oregon, to Delsa Gloria Lutz Abbott and Clifton Elby Abbott. She grew up with her loving brothers, Gary and Michael. In 1961, she married Douglas Jay Phillips. Together they raised four sons, one daughter, and also cared for a foster daughter in Idaho and Washington state.

As a young women she worked for a bank in Parkrose, Oregon. Her supervisor commented that "she had a good head on her shoulders." In 1972, she and Doug purchased a department store in Deer Park, Washington. Janice worked side by side with Doug as a buyer and merchandiser. For a few years Janice ran a dress shop of her own, called Jan's Fashions.

Most of Janice's time was spent as a loving mother to her children and a devoted daughter to her parents. She loved playing games with her children and grandchildren, especially the game "double dizzy." Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she mothered several of them in her home throughout the years. She was kind and gentle to all.

Janice served faithfully in the LDS church in the Relief Society, Primary, and Cub Scouts. She gave regularly to children's charities throughout the world.

In the last few years, Janice was cared for by her sweet cousin, Joan Eweg, and recently by CNS hospice. We are so grateful for their loving service.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Doug. She is survived by her brother, Michael Abbott (Mary), her children: Brad (Jan), Cliff (Mary), David (Linda), Lorne (Karla), Michelle Shtyba, as well as 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Midvale 1st Ward, 308 West 7500 South, Midvale, UT, on Wed. Oct. 25 at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held that morning at 10:00 am at the church. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
