Janice Marie (Barnes) Frantz Collier

Janice Marie Barnes Frantz Collier passed away unexpectedly in her home on October 13, 2017 at the age of 57.

Beloved wife, best friend, beautiful mother, and Nana, Jan was the epitome of wonderful.

Jan was born on October 21, 1959 in Seattle, Washington to Al and Georgia Barnes. Jan attended Ingraham High School and then transferred to Ballard High School where she graduated in 1977.

One of Jan's favorite spots to hang out was Carkeek Park where she enjoyed the rocky beach. She was fond of spending time with her friends at the local roller skating hangout, the Ridge Rink. Jan had a love of creating art. She spent endless hours painting rock band-themed posters, mostly of album covers.

Her brother Rick inspired Jan's appreciation of music and cars. She loved riding in his green Shelby Mustang down to Golden Gardens and enjoyed watching his candy apple red Maverick race at Seattle International and Bremerton Raceways.

Over the years Jan amassed a huge shoe collection. No platform was too tall. She felt with the right pair of shoes, anything was possible. Known to some as Jammin' Jan, she was an avid music lover and had a collection that would make any audiophile jealous. Money for new records was always a priority in the budget. If you thought her shoe collection was impressive, you should have seen her music collection. She had a museum's worth of records and enough music on file to listen nonstop for 153 days. Listening to live music and going to concerts made her heart happy.

Later in life, she enjoyed spending long weekends on the boat, going for Harley rides to Yosemite National Park, and going to the Tri-Cities Water Follies Festival in Kennewick Washington with her husband Clint, whom she married on April 22, 2006 in West Jordan, Utah.

Jan enjoyed playing computer games and doing puzzles-the more difficult the better. Jan could smoke anyone in a game of music trivia. She had a fantastic and playfully devilish sense of humor. She loved puns, and they were most definitely always intended. A cool, flashy, sportscar was her preferred mode of travel. Firecracker is a word many used to describe Jan. People often sought her advice and could count on her to give it freely, thoughtfully, and from her heart. Many considered her a surrogate mother. Jan was an incredibly generous person, with a heart of gold, and always believed in treating people the way she wanted to be treated. You could count on her no matter what. If she said she was going to do something, she would, and she would execute it to the very best of her ability. She was detail-oriented and had a keen knack for problem solving.

Jan always said her children were her greatest accomplishment in her life and she meant it. Jan wasn't shy in telling everyone how proud she was of them. Her grandson was a highlight in her life and spending time with him was cherished. She was very much looking forward to meeting new grandbaby Mila this upcoming January.

Jan is survived by her husband, Clint Collier; her children, Ryan Frantz and Rhiannon (Chase) Dawes whom she shared with former spouse Glen Frantz; grandchildren Greyson and Mila Dawes; stepmother Lynann Barnes; brother, Rick (Jo) Barnes; nephews, Devin and Marty Barnes; and feline companion Harley. She is predeceased by her mother, Georgia Havel, and father, Albert Barnes Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah 84020.

The family will be donating musical instruments to local schools in need for musical education programs in Jan's name. In lieu of flowers, please donate to their GoFundMe campaign at: www.gofundme.com/donation-to-honor-jan-collier
