Janet Marie Smith

Janet Marie Smith, born March 16th, 1952, passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2023, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was number seven of eight children born to Frank and Melva (Price) Green. After her mother’s passing when Janet was five years old, she was lovingly welcomed into her Uncle Keith and Aunt Pauline Price’s home. She filled in the gap to complete their family.

Janet had many professions throughout her life; she worked as a runner at Walker Bank, as a lunch lady at Skyline and Olympus high schools, and most recently as a secretary at Central Office Supplies.

Janet’s life truly began when she met Donald Leo Smith on August 11th, 1977, they then married on July 22nd, 1978. The two of them welcomed three daughters, Jana Mae, Kasey Ann, and Rebecca Kay. Janet was made to be a mom; her girls were everything to her. As her children grew and later married, the titles “grandma boots” and “grandma with the horse” were made. She loved her new role as she welcomed Wyatt, Katelynn, Emma, Harlie, Morgan, Brinley, Dean, Remington, and Olivia.

Janet was an avid collector, and often went through phases of focusing on one thing. When something peaked her interest she she went ALL in with intense passion. Some of her interests included collecting beanie babies, scrapbooking, estate sale shopping for the dark green depression glass, gardening, cross stitching, puzzles, knitting, quilting and games of all kinds (computer, board, video & eventually apps on her phone). As she got older she found joy in ordering online and joining groups where people she met online became a community of friends. The excitement built as she was able to share these items and the knowledge she gained with the people she loved and cared for. She began with ordering bath bombs and candles, filling jewelry boxes full of rings even after sharing them. Diamond paintings were her most recent fascination. This last Christmas she gifted her loved ones with the diamond painting that reminded her of each of them.

Janet had the best sense of humor, at times she didn’t even try to be funny, she just was. She’d have you in stitches with the kind of laughter that made your belly hurt. She was just that fun.

Janet is survived by her husband, Donald, her daughters Jana (Jared) Wright, Kasey (Brian) Newton, and Rebecca (Kris) Meyer, her sisters, Lela (Gale) Bateman, Paula Pavich, Teena Ruffing, her grandkids, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by both sets of parents, her brothers, Ross Green, Ronald Price and Douglas Green, and her sisters, Judy Leoncini, and Patricia Morgan.

The family would like to thank all those at Huntsman Cancer Institute, Mobile Medical Group, CNS Home Health, and Inspiration Hospice who cared for her in her final moments.
