James Ladell (Sonny) Steadman

James LaDell (Sonny) Steadman, 94, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully due to natural causes, on June 28, 2020 in West Jordan, Utah.  He was born September 29, 1925 in Murray, Utah to James Robert Steadman and Emma Lavonne Reading.  He was predeceased by his parents, his son Drue, grandson Justin, and siblings, Myrtle (Charles) Wright, Shirley (Wayne) Olson, Jay (Florence) Steadman, Dale (Irene) Steadman, Steven (Robin) Reading. He married Shelba Butterfield, the love of his life, on June 5, 1946 in the Salt Lake City Temple, they were married for 74 years.   They had six children: Dellene (Gary) Hill, Lillian (Dale) Rabatin, Val (Marilyn) Steadman, Lanell (Charley) Wright, Drue (Sue) Steadman, and Jalayne McKee, 22 grandchildren and their spouses, 56 great grandchildren, and two expected.

LaDell lived his life in West Jordan and was always active in town politics and created the first West Jordan Little League Organization.  He was a Master Gardener who was always willing to share the abundance of his beautiful and productive garden with neighbors. Great pride was taken in raising beautiful flowers and keeping an attractive yard.  He was known to sometimes mow his grass three times in one week.  Most of his career was spent at Kennecott Copper Corporation but he also worked at Granite Furniture when he was younger.  Dad loved a good prank, especially gluing a quarter on the front porch. Each Halloween he looked forward to dressing up either in his clown costume or fur coat and wig. Chocolate Chip cookies are his favorite (thanks for your past donations) and Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.  Most mornings began with the sweet strains of western music (much to the chagrin of some of his children and wife).  LaDell was a friend to all, which was especially beneficial as he served three Service Missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, two of which he served with his wife.  As a stalwart member of The Church, he served on the High Council, Bishopric and numerous other callings. Thanks to all that have assisted the family in the last few months.

A viewing for friends and relatives will be held on July 2, 2020 at Goff Mortuary in Midvale, Utah from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
