The man, the mustache, the legend, James "Jim" L. Jeffries passed away on the morning of October 7th, 2021, at the age of 78. Jim was born on March 10th, 1943, in Vernal, Utah to Coke and Alma Jeffries. He graduated from Uintah High School in 1961. He often reminisced about his adventures growing up in Vernal and would always recognize an old friend when he would go back to visit.
Jim married his one true love, Sandra Richins on August 11th, 1966, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Jim received a degree in Automotive Engineering from Weber State University in 1966 and went on to work for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, MI. In 1983, Jim, alongside Sandra and his 3 children, Shane, Heidi, and Jeremy, moved to Sandy, UT after he had accepted a job with the Salt Lake County Health Department, where he worked for the Bureau of Air Quality for 37 years, before retiring in December 2020.
Jim's compassion for others was evident as he was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Ponderosa Fire in Houston, Texas and Sandy City. He loved the fire department and took great pride in detailing the fire trucks and ambulances with vinyl lettering and gold leaf. This led to him opening his own business with his sons, Jeffries Striping and Lettering.
Some of Jim's favorite hobbies were cars, hunting and taking pictures of anything and everything. He owned his dream car, a 2008 Ford Mustang. He took enormous pride in his Mustang and would often enter and win "Best in Show" at local car and Mustang shows. He loved showing off his pictures and talking about them to anyone who would listen.
Because of Jim's warm and engaging personality, he made friends everywhere he went and loved to be surrounded by those he loved. Above all else, Jim loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Sandra, his children, Shane (Sherry) Jeffries, Heidi (John) Sullivan, and Jeremy Jeffries, his grandchildren, John Patrick Sullivan, McKenzie (Trevor) Christianson, Madison Sullivan, Flint Sullivan, Beau Jeffries, and Makayla Jeffries, along with two great grandchildren, Noah and Everett Christianson. He is preceded in death by his son Jason Lee Jeffries, his sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Dee Lund, and his parents, Coke and Alma Jeffries.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Anderson and Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, UT. Jim will be laid to rest next to his son, Jason, in Vernal, UT.
In honor of Jim, the family asks that you enjoy the outdoors with those you love, take pictures of your surroundings, compliment a stranger, enjoy a meal with family, and make a new friend. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
