James Russell Howell

James Russell Howell

James Russell Howell, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away July 16, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 82. He was born April 20, 1935 in Pocatello, Idaho to James Verl and Vida Ward Howell. He is the youngest of five children. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1953 and later attended Idaho State University. He also served as a Paratrooper in the Idaho Army National Guard.

He married Ivy Howell Dec. 21, 1955, they had and raised 4 children. They later divorced. He then married Kaye LaFawn Healey in the Jordan River Temple on November 25 1985, they were later sealed September 14, 2005 in the Laie Hawaii Temple. With this marriage to Kaye he inherited 5 more children, which he helped raise. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings throughout his life. He was actively involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Salt Lake City Chapter. He worked in the trucking industry for many years and retired in 1999. He loved to fish and being in the outdoors. He was known for his kindness, patience, positive attitude, sense of humor and his beautiful voice. He loved being with family and friends and especially his grandkids, each had a special place in his heart.

Survived by his wife, Kaye; children Richard Howell; Peggy (Mike) Olson; Vickie (Deven) Nieder; Vickie (Kurt) Davis; Jennifer (Dave) Gingrass; Mindy (Mark) Thygerson; Joshua (Michele) Mitchell; Monica Mitchell; 33 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son Russell Howell, and three grandsons Toby, Trent and Graham.

We would like to express our thanks to all those who cared for Jim through his many illnesses and our friends and family that helped and watched out for him.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, at 12:00 noon at the Draper 5th Ward LDS Chapel, 13006 S. Boulter St., Draper. There will be a viewing Tuesday 6-8 pm at the Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper and Wednesday 10:30-11:30 am at the church.

He will be laid to rest in the Alpine City Cemetery.
