Jack Gordon Phelps quietly passed away on August 31, 2018 in Sandy, Utah after living a full, vivacious life. Son of Fredrick Leo and Eva Elvira Ahlberg Phelps, Jack was born on June 6, 1925, the youngest of four children.

Jack served his country in World War II with the US Army where he received the Purple Heart award. He later married his sweetheart, Joyce Brown, on April 7, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on April 7,1949. They shared a delightful and joyful marriage residing in Midvale, Utah. They were blessed with three sons and one daughter. Jack worked for Jordan School District as the Custodian of Midvale Middle School for twenty-four years. Upon retirement, Jack and Joyce immersed themselves in a Good Sam group where they enjoyed camping and warm friendships. After the passing of his dear wife, Joyce, Jack met and wed Gwenda Lu Mitchell and was again happily married for the remainder of his life.

As a disciple of Jesus Christ, Jack was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served valiantly in his callings including Bishop, Bishopric member, and as a member of the Stake High Council. He was a compassionate leader and one who lead by example.

Jack knew and understood the value of hard work. Equally, he cherished time and fun spent with his family camping and boating. His positive attitude and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Jack was known for his humility, kindness and Christ-like love for others. He was a devoted and affectionate husband, father and grandfather; who unconditionally loved and supported his family.

Jack is survived by his four children Gordon (Debbie) Phelps, Dawn (Bruce) Yates, Alan (Marci) Phelps and Larry (Tami) Phelps, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude for those who cared for Jack in his final needs, including Cedarwood at Sandy and Encompass Home Health and Hospice. Their kindness and concern brought peace during a difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Midvale 5th Ward located at 8171 South Jackson Street, Midvale, Utah 84047. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be held at the Midvale City Cemetery.
