J Marion Nielsen

J Marion Nielsen, 84, was born in Payson, Utah on Jan. 16, 1935, to Evangeline Potter and Arthur Antone Nielsen. He died Dec. 28, 2019 at home.

He attended school in Payson, Utah, where he enjoyed playing football and wrestling. After graduation, he served in the Army for 2 years, then he served a 31 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Denmark.

He married Naomi Terry on Jan 2, 1961. They had 2 children, J Craig, and Debra.

J was a brick mason for 25 years. In his spare time he built several fireplaces and did block and brick work for many people. After having back surgery, he became a custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, until he retired. After he retired, he had a little business of mowing lawns for a few years for neighbors and friends. After his wife retired, she helped him and they worked together.

J worked in the Baptistry at the Jordan River Temple for 5 years.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodcutting, and gardening. He always raised a large garden, and enjoyed sharing it with everyone. He enjoyed working with his chain saw, cutting firewood every year and cutting down trees for many people. He loved using his tractor in his work. He enjoyed being busy and helping people with whatever projects they needed, from putting in sprinkling systems to trapping their gophers. He also loved to use his tractor to pull the little kids around the neighborhood in little cars made from large barrels with wheels attached to them. The barrels were made by a friend, Harold Hurst. They called it the train. The kids really enjoyed riding in them. Some of the adults also had fun riding, which was a little hard on the wheels.

J loved to collect things. He didn't like to throw things away. He had all kinds of what everyone would call junk, but he called them these'ls. When asked what a thesel's was, he would say these'l come in handy some day. And many times they did come in handy. He made different tools and repaired things with them.

J is survived by his wife Naomi, of 58 years, one son, J Craig, (Midge) and a daughter Debra, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was loved by so many and will truly be missed.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at the Crescent 3rd Ward at 949 E. 10600 So., Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Our thanks to Intermountain Hospice Care, and especially to Brigitte for her compassionate and loving care.
