Irma Griggs Clawson (96) passed away on June 10, 2023. She was born in Driggs, Idaho on May 18, 1927 to Lawrence Price Griggs and Emily Boweter Griggs. She was the fifth daughter of ten children (eight girls and two boys).
Irma received her schooling in Driggs, Idaho and graduated from Teton High in 1945. Following high school graduation, Irma worked at Hill Field for three months and then moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to her sisters Marjorie and Mary. She lived at the Beehive House and was employed by AT&T for several years.
After a five-year courtship, she married the love of her life, Grant Romney Clawson, on February 28, 1951, in Fort Riley, Kansas (where Grant was stationed during the Korean War). Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 28, 1955.
Irma always had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many church capacities: Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, as well as Sunday School Coordinator, Compassionate Service Leader, Regional Sports Director, and Visiting Teaching Supervisor. Late in her life, she served with her husband as service missionaries for 18 months in the Thai Branch in Murray, Utah.
Her greatest love in life, next to her husband and church, was her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family continues to grow and here we are: Grant (Grig) (Paula), Colby (Don Niederhauser), Gavin (Stephanie), Darcie (Diana Smith), Cara Peterson (Michael), Megan Doezie (Troy): 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; along with several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irma is survived by her sister, Violet Heward.
Irma will be interred in the Salt Lake City Cemetery (at 4th Avenue and N Street) with her husband. We feel immense gratitude for a loving Savior who, through His Atonement, made it possible for families to be together forever. We know she is having a wonderful reunion with her husband, parents, and siblings. ‘Til we meet again.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Ridgecreek Ward chapel (5735 South Fashion Boulevard, Murray, Utah). A viewing will take place prior from 10:00am to 11:40am.
