Ida Marie Turner

Our dear GG, Ida Marie Turner passed away on Sunday November 19th, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family and friends.
She was born June 30th, 1939, in Cedar City Utah, to John Virgil & Marcia (McCallister) Crawford.
Marie graduated from Woodward Jr. High School in 1955 and Dixie High in 1957, in St. George Utah.
Married Laconte Newby and later married Kella O Turner where together with them she had 5 children, and then in 1994 she became a new mom to Kisha Marie Turner who filled her life with joy! She was a dedicated Mother whose family always came first.
She was proud to become a homeowner and a clean house was important to her.
GG had a love for gardening and could make anything grow. She loved being in the yard and keeping it beautiful.
Among all these tasks she also worked outside the home, she was a server and loved to be in service of others.
In her younger years she went to school to further her education, and in the 80’s she joined the construction trade where she became part of the sheet metal union and installed ductwork.
She worked on the Crossroads Mall in downtown Salt Lake City and many other buildings in the Salt Lake Valley. She retired from serving at Midvale Mining Co in 2008. She felt like she needed to stay busy and joined the Newspaper Agency team cleaning offices.

Marie joined the (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) D.U.P in 2004, My grandma LOVED her D.U.P. sisters and the gatherings that they had. She served as the secretary for 6 years, and the daughters loved her, HER BIG HEART, and her dedication to this position.

Marie also received a calling to work in the Midvale Family History Center she was learning about computers and doing the research for not just our family history but for many families, we all learned a lot from her calling.

Marie is survived by her children- Kelly Gattis, Russel Newby, Philip (Teresa) Newby, Sunny (Chad)Crowl, Shauna Turner and Kisha (Casey) Tuner.12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, Sisters Marcia Somsen, Catherine Crawford, and Brother John E (Kathy) Crawford.
Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank you " to the members of the Trauma Unit at the IHC Murray Hospital for the care they gave our mom in her final days.

Funeral services will be held at the Midvale 5th Ward Chapel on 8171 South Jackson Street, Midvale, UT at 11:00 am on Friday the 24th, 2023. 
A viewing will be held prior to this from 9:30 am-10:45 am. Interment in Enterprise Cemetery in Washington Co. on Saturday, November 25th at 3:00 pm.
