Herman Jae Winkler, 91, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020 at his home in South Jordan Utah. Jae was born November 13, 1928 to Ira and Mamie (Lloyd) Winkler in Bluebell, Utah, the youngest of four children. He moved to Spring Canyon, Utah in the fall of 1937.  He went to Carbon high. He played on the football team and the track team. He took first place in the district and third place in the BYU Invitational track meet in the quarter mile run. He moved to Sandy, Utah in 1946 where he finished high schooling at Jordan High. He took second in the state and BYU track meets in the half mile run and played on the football team that won the state championship.  It was here that he met Luana Jaynes who would later become his wife. He was called to the Western Canadian Mission and served an honorable two-year mission.  He married Luana in the Salt Lake Temple March 20, 1952. He graduated from Barber College and after working with other barbers in their shops he opened his own shop next to his home in Sandy, Utah. He studied electronics through correspondence courses and became very good at this profession. He worked for Monteck and Sperry Rand Corp. He eventually went to work for Jordan School District to service all of their audio-visual equipment where he worked until he retired at age 62. He also kept his barber shop open in the evenings to cut hair.

Jae was always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions. He and Luana served three missions in the Addiction/Recovery mission. They also served in the Jordan River Temple for 18 years.

Jae is survived by his wife, Luana; daughters, Janece Ford, Julianne (Roger) Chapman, Colette Winkler, and LuJayne (Matthew) Hyde; son Clark (Colleen) Winkler; sister Marian Monsen; 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Jae was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers Lloyd and Keith.

A viewing will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 10:00 am - 11:45 am with the funeral service following at 12:00 noon, at Fox Pointe Ward 1465 West Bristol Ridge Road (8420 So) West Jordan, Utah 84088. Burial will follow at the Sandy City Cemetery.
