Herbert Weston Atkinson

Heavenly Father needed another good brick mason and all-around handy man with a great eye for detail to build up the kingdom, so his dad came to get Weston.

Herbert Weston Atkinson was born November 6, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clifford Herbert and LaRue Burbidge Atkinson. He passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Wentworth Care Center.

When he was six years old, his father, mother, brother Ward and sister Larky moved to the small town of Marion, Utah. His dad worked in Salt Lake City as a brick mason, and Wes and his mom worked together on the farm. He and his Mom were always very close and went through some harrowing times together. In 1956, not happily, they moved to the thriving metropolis of Draper Utah. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1957 but left life-long friends in Marion. He met and fell in love with Tonya Day and they were married on June 26, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with delicious shakes from the Arctic Circle. We as a family appreciate Tonya's love and devotion to Weston, especially the care she gave to him the last few years. They had some great times together.

To this union was born Kristine, Kari, and C. H. Weston loved his family and would do anything for them. He loved spending time with them and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wes worked with his dad and brother with C. H. Atkinson and Sons, and loved their relationship working together. He later became a fireman and worked with the Salt Lake County Fire Department. He made lasting friendships there and retired as a Battalion Chief.

After retiring, he enjoyed working for George Greenwood. We're not sure who of the two were the boss. He later loved working with Howard Vawdrey pouring concrete when they were both too old. He loved his best friends Jay Burkinshaw and Joe Terry and many other friends and acquaintances. He also enjoyed going to dinner on Friday nights with Tonya, Brent, and Mary and then on a tour around the ever-changing city of Draper. He had a wonderful relationship with Brent.  We will never know how many lives he touched.

He loved working in his shop making beautiful wood projects to give to family. He especially loved working in his garden and mowing the field.  We will miss his wonderful cantaloupes. He also loved animals of any kind, even pigs, and named each one.

He is survived by his dear wife Tonya, daughter Kristine (Kent) Price, Draper, son C. H. (Michelle) Francis, Utah, sister Mary (Brent) Miller, Draper, Utah, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, brother Ward and his sister Larky. But he especially missed his beautiful daughter Kari.

What a wonderful reunion they're having. We're grateful for the Hospice nurses and the aides and nurses at Wentworth for all their love and concern.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Draper 12th Ward, 12300 South 600 East, Draper, Utah. Viewings will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah and 1 hour prior to the service, at the church. Interment, Draper City Cemetery.
