Hazel June Sorenson

Hazel June Butterfield Sorenson, 91, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away April 9th, 2016.

She was born June 27th, 1924 in Herriman, Utah to Martha and Thomas Butterfield. She married Ned William Sorenson January 8th, 1944. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Hazel was a lifetime member of the LDS church, where she served several times as Primary and Relief Society Presidents. She also served in the Young Women's and Scouting Organizations. She was a member of the DUP until her death.

Our mother was quite the woman. She was a hand quilter. Her five sisters and she had many a great quilting bee. Hazel also enjoyed embroidery work. She was an excellent cook and helped a lot of her daughters-in-law out with favorite recipes. Hazel loved to play games and was winning at cards at the age of 91.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was known by her adult children as "card shark" and by her grandchildren as "Cookie Grandma." We love you, Mom. You will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a brother Merrill Butterfield, children Ned & Shirlene, Neil & Caren, Richard & Karen, Harold & Judy, Virginia & Kirk James, Nathan & Brenda, 29 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 9 siblings, 1 grandchild, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held April 13th, 2016 11:00 am at the Pioneer 2nd Ward located at 12682 South Starlite Hills Lane, Herriman, Utah 84096. Viewing from 9 - 10:30 am. Interment at Herriman City Cemetery.
