Harold Miles Bowen

Our beloved dad and grandpa, Harold Miles Bowen passed away with his family by his side on October 21 at the age of 88.

Harold was born September 11, 1932 to George Edward Bowen and Katie LaRue Bowen in Coalville, Utah. He was the youngest brother of 9 children. Harold attended North Summit where he participated in the choir and enjoyed singing with a band that traveled throughout the state.

Harold served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He was stationed in Panama. Following his service, he married JoAnn Ovard on November 30, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They became parents to 5 children; Tan (Tammy) Bowen, Stanley (Chris) Bowen, Tonya Bowen Keeve, Troy (Jami) Bowen and Travis (Lorilee) Bowen. Dad loved spending time with his children, 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Harold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He filled many positions and worked for the church in building maintenance. Dad was a very hard worker and he taught his children the value of hard work. He spent many years working for the Hi-Land Dairy, driving oil tankers and coast to coast trucking. He also worked as a carpenter and contractor including building much of his own home.

Dad enjoyed the mountains, hunting, camping and fishing. He passed this joy to his family. His favorite activity was fishing at Strawberry Reservoir with his dog Kimo, in his boat named "Therapy." He kept going there until he couldn't find his way. Dad loved Westerns, Lewis and Clark stories and trains. He was always up for an adventure whether it was rolling rocks, tipping trees, hiking steep mountainsides or doing house projects. Dad always made everyone laugh and he taught his children to laugh at themselves. He had a love for sweets especially ice cream and pogey bait. His 2 favorite words were dingy and a dilly which referred to most anything.

Harold is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and 2 sisters. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jeanette Vernon, Encompass Home-Health especially Sheryl Porter and Corey Blonquist. Also the Elk Meadows staff with a special thank you to Michelle Blood his caregiver.

Per Harold's wishes, no funeral service will be held. A graveside service for the family will be held at the Hoytsville Cemetery. In memory of our sweet dad please go fishing and enjoy the outdoors.
