Gregory J. Matthews

Gregory J. Matthews passed away in the loving care of his family on August 3rd, 2021.

He was born the youngest son to Douglas and Elaine (Jenkins) Matthews on April 23rd, 1961.

Greg was born a healthy, happy baby, but unfortunately suffered a severe case of spinal meningitis at 18 months old, which left him both mentally and physically disabled for the rest of his life.

Greg was blessed with an amazing mother and father who were completely devoted to the meticulous care of their youngest son for the rest of their lives. They were resolute in ensuring that Greg always received the utmost care.

Growing up Greg was a happy child, always smiling. He was both a challenge and a blessing to his family. He was greatly loved unconditionally by his doting parents, and big brothers David and Howard, who took the best of care of him. They always respected him for the special member of the family that he was.

Greg loved going on car rides! He was always involved in family activities and adventures. He grew up on a great street in Midvale where he was surrounded by a loving extended family, friends and wonderful neighbors who always greeted him with love and affection.

We love you so much Greggy, and can't wait to meet you on the other side!

We would like to express our appreciation to Harmony Home Health Care, and our sincere gratitude to the three amazing, compassionate CNA's that so lovingly cared for Greg in the latter years of his life. Thank you Shirlei, Becky, and Rosie for ALL that you did for Greg and for his family! You were so desperately needed, appreciated and loved. We will miss your visits every day and wish the very best that life has to offer to you because you certainly deserve it!

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 9 at 2:30 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South. There will be a viewing at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the services.
