Grant Wayne Kay

Grant Wayne Kay, age 78, of Mona, Utah, passed away the evening of February 8, 2020, surrounded by his sweet wife Melinda and his five precious daughters. He was born on July 8, 1941 in Nephi, Utah. He was the fourth of six children born to Lynn W Kay and Almina Johnson Kay.

Grant lived his 78 years in Mona Utah.

He was such a simple man. He didn't have a need for more. He truly realized the things that matter most, and lived his life as an example to all of us. If you were fortunate enough to be among those who knew him, you are counted as blessed. He spent his days quietly serving, though too humble to know what an impact he was having on so many people. He made it a point every day, besides the days he was physically unable, to make the rounds in Mona stopping to check on many friends and those he cared about. If you ever saw a slow moving gray Lincoln cruising the streets of quiet little Mona, you witnessed true living.

He loved growing up in Mona. He loved being raised in the country and later owning and running his own farm. He worked for several years at Nephi Rubber Plant before pursuing full-time work on his farm. He enjoyed riding horses as a child and spent many an afternoon at Burraston Pond and Mona Reservoir. He has been a long time resident of Mona and will be dearly missed by many of its residents. He was always quick with a clever, witty comment and silly one-liners. We got him to giggle a couple of times prior to his passing, which we will treasure forever. He loved challenging us and others to simple mind games and enjoyed seeing us struggle for the answers. He was extremely intelligent and handsome, and he knew it.

Grant met Karen Ilene Mansfield at trade school in Orem. They later married and had five loving daughters. After 25 years of marriage, they parted ways. He then met and married Melinda Lou Throckmorton from Mona. They have had a sweet 34 years of marriage.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Almina and Lynn Kay, his brother Steve Kay of Provo, his sisters Ludene Howell of Springville, and JoAnn Christiansen of Walla Walla, Washington. He leaves behind those he left too early, his dear sweet wife Melinda Kay of Mona, his daughters Connie Morgan (George) of Nephi, DeAnn Young (Kevin) of Mona, Kristy Mortezazadeh (Hamid) of Highland, RaNae Bryan (Shane) of Nephi, and Melinda Bryan (Matt) of Nephi. He also leaves behind Melinda's children, Jody Deats of Las Vegas, Nevada, Scott Throckmorton of Mona, Trina Bradley of Bliss, New York and James (Danny) Throckmorton (Patricia) of Aurora, Colorado. He has a beautiful legacy of 25 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, all of whom will miss him and forever treasure and honor their relationship with him. Survived by siblings, sister, Marilyn Park, Nephi and a brother, Clark (Nadine) Kay, Payson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mona 3rd and 4th Ward Chapel at 65 W 800 S, Mona. There will be a viewing Wednesday, February 12th from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home at 94 W 300 S, Nephi, Utah, as well as a viewing one hour prior to the services on Thursday morning.
