Grace Udean Bruno Ostler, age 95, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away March 17, 2021 in Nephi, Utah. She was born December 7, 1925 in Moroni, Utah to Scott Barnum and Sophie O'Leary Cloward Bruno. She was the sixth of ten children.
She was raised in Moroni and graduated from Moroni High School in 1944. She met her husband, Leland (Skip) Ostler, at a dance at the Bungalow Dance Hall in Moroni. They were married on January 31, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple while he was home on leave from the Army. While Skip was serving overseas, Grace worked at the parachute factory in Manti. When the war ended, she continued to work at the sewing factory making men's jackets. When Skip returned home, he built the house in Nephi where they raised their family. She lived there until the last two years when she was no longer able to live independently.
Mom was a talented seamstress, and was also skilled in quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She was an excellent cook and we all loved her chicken and dumpling soup, creamed peas, creamed carrots and pasta salad. There were always cookies in her cookie jar. She enjoyed playing the organ and was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her family and long phone calls with her sisters. Throughout her life she worked at various cafes and restaurants, the sewing plant, and Christensen's Department Store in Nephi where she enjoyed getting to know her co-workers and customers. She was a member of the Variette Club.
Grace was active in the LDS Church, serving as Stake Relief Society secretary, primary teacher, and Cub Scout den mother. She served at the garment distribution center, and also helped with temple name extractions.
Grace is survived by her children: Carol (Blaine) Whiting, Dale (Debbie) Ostler, Rodney (Margie) Ostler, Jerry (Bridget) Ostler, and Kevin Ostler; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Jewel Bailey; brother, Perry (Diane) Bruno. Preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son, Rudy; great-grandson, Ryker Whiting, and siblings: Iona, Albert, Gene, Glendon, Bernell, Marcille and Scott.
