Gordon John Marz 1943-2016 Gordon John Marz passed peacefully on December 27, 2016, at the age of 73. Gordon was born to William John and Ida Elisabeth Marz on July 7, 1943 in Salt Lake City. Ida passed shortly after Gordon�s birth. Gordon�s father eventually remarried and Gordon was raised by his dad and his mom, Wanda. Gordon attended Olympus High School where he met the love of his life, Betty Lou Wills. Gordon and Betty were married in the Logan temple on November 14, 1962. Gordon joined the U.S. Army in 1961 and served as a Reservist until 1968. Gordon owned and operated his own business for over thirty years. He instilled the value of hard work in each of his children, often bringing them to work with him. Gordon was a passionate outdoorsman and spent many enjoyable hours with his family fishing, hunting, camping and cross-country skiing. In his later years, he particularly enjoyed ice fishing with his sons and grandsons. Gordon loved Scouting and served in various capacities in the Great Salt Lake Council for over 20 years. He was awarded Scouting�s prestigious Silver Beaver Award for his years of dedicated service and was extremely proud of this honor. Gordon is survived by his beloved wife Betty, of 54 years, and his children Brad (Wendy), Ken (Linda), Todd (Natalie), Shellie Hutchinson (Neil), Scott (Holly), Angie Pearson (Matt) and Lynette Jacobsen (Nick). Gordon was fun-loving �Papa� to 30 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Gordon is also survived by his siblings Betty Brown, Kara Toma (Allan), John (Barbara), Tina Gibbs (Gary), Leslie Marsh and Shauna Haymore (Robert). Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard and Bill. Gordon was a dedicated and loving husband and father and a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various callings including serving as a service missionary, along with Betty, in the Bonneville Branch in Salt Lake City, and he also served in a bishopric. He had a love for history and a deep respect for our country. His playful sense of humor and jovial nature will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the L.D.S. chapel located at 5450 South Holladay Boulevard in Holladay, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Gordon will be laid to rest at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park at Camp Williams in Bluffdale, Utah.
