Gordon Davis Bodily

Gordon was born to Walton Edwin Bodily and Olive Marie Merkley on July 28, 1927 in Maeser, Utah. His mother passed away when he was young and he was raised by his step-mother, Zelpha Mae Allen. He passed away peacefully on July 24, 2016. He served in the Army at Fort Douglas during World War II. In 1947 he started school at BYU and attended until he left on an LDS mission to the Eastern States Mission in 1949. On August 13, 1951, he married his love, Jackie Barlow.

Gordon worked in various positions at Kennecott Copper Mine. He was a devoted member of the LDS Church and had many callings, including being bishop for many years. He worked in the temple baptistry and was called with his wife, Jackie, on a service mission as an employment specialist. Gordon spent his life in service to others. When someone needed help in town, they knew that Gordon would be there to help, with a smile on his face. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing with children. He loved to make up songs and tell stories. His "Stinky the Skunk" stories and Seagull and Bluebird songs were especially loved. Gordon had a gift for woodworking. He loved to go out in his workshop and make wooden creations like toys, canes, chess sets, and many other things for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed a special friendship with his neighbors, Kathy and Bill Randall, who were a blessing to him and his family.

He is survived by his children, Kristene Searle (Paul), Teresa Anderson, LeAnn Tucker (Rick), Margo Allred (Daren), Jill Bolz, Gena Tyler (Craig), Kae Remund (Kirk), and Craig Bodily (Martha); 43 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren; siblings Lucile Anderson, Harold Bodily, Luella Evans, Thoral Bodily, Floyd Bodily, Deloris Hanson, and Delila Goodrich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jaqueline (Jackie) Barlow Bodily and siblings Lorenzo Bodily, Anna Morrison, and Melvin Bodily.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 29, from 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 30, 11:00 am at the Copperton LDS Ward, Copperton, Utah with a viewing one hour before at the church. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
