Golden R. Mangelson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 5, 2021 in Nephi, Utah. Golden was born on August 9, 1926 in Levan to Reuben AC Mangelson and Nettie Irene Hatfield. He attended grade school in Levan and graduated from Juab High School.
Golden was drafted into the US Army in February 1945 a few months before high school graduation. He served as the religious group leader during his deployment. He was a member of American Legion Post 24. Golden was the last WWII veteran currently recorded in Juab County.
Irene Bosh waited for Golden to return home from war and married on December 11, 1946 in the Manti Utah Temple. They built their life and raised a family of five children in Levan. Golden enjoyed history and traveling, but his greatest joy was his family. He was the quiet and steadfast pillar of the family. He was the kind of man that his family and friends looked to for advice and counsel and "to get things done."
Golden's livelihood was agricultural based. Because of his love of agriculture, he was actively involved in dozens of advisory groups and study committees, as well as assisted in the design of many agricultural irrigation projects in Juab County.
Golden had many opportunities to serve the people of Levan and surrounding communities. He served in various capacities on local, county, region and state councils. He was a founding member of both the Utah Municipal Power Agency and the Intermountain Municipal Gas Agency. As an employee of Nephi City, he led the effort to bring natural gas to Juab County.
There is no question of Golden's testimony of the Savior. He taught through example as he dedicated his life to service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held numerous positions in his ward and stake including bishop and stake president, as well as serving with Irene as Manti Temple ordinance workers and area missionaries.
Golden is survived by his children: Jerry (Marilyn) Mangelson of Levan, Russell (Christie) Mangelson of Levan, Patty (Mark) Jones of Nephi, Julie (Fred) Smalley of Levan, Melanie (Charlee) McNeill of Grantsville, UT, 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his spouse; parents; granddaughter, Erica Jones; sister, Lois Brough; brother, Romaine Mangelson.
Our family would like to express gratitude to the staff at the Victorian House and Laurel Groves Assisted Living, A Plus Home Health and Hospice, and Anderson Funeral Home.
