On July 27, 2021, Golda RoMae Shryers (nee Lang) passed away peacefully at the age of 85 and the world became a little less colorful. RoMae was born on December 20, 1935 in Sandy, Utah. She was a talented painter and a long-time member of the Intermountain Society of Artists. Her vibrant watercolor paintings captured the bold colors of the American West and were featured in gallery showings all across the Salt Lake Valley.
Around the time RoMae graduated from Jordan High School, she met a young serviceman named Glenn Shryers. Glenn and RoMae fell in love, and on December 18, 1953, the couple were married and remained so until Glenn passed away in 2018. Over their 64 years together, Glenn and RoMae had 6 children. RoMae passed on her passion for art to her children-a number of whom are talented artists in their own right.
RoMae is survived by her four children Bruce (Suzanne) Shryers of Seligman, Arizona, Louise Shryers of Midvale, Utah, Luanne Shryers (Tony Yocum) of Sandy, Utah, and Sarah (Randy) Hawkins of Marietta, Georgia, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and scores of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. And whether you knew her as "Mom," "Grandma," "Aunt Mae," or simply "RoMae," you knew you always had a place at her table and in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Glenn, and two sons, Roger and Glenn, III.
Vincent Van Gough once said that "paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter's soul." Although she has passed on, RoMae's sprit will live on through the art she created and people she touched. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have had her in our lives will miss her greatly.
The family will celebrate the lives of RoMae and Glenn at a service to be held on September 11, 2021 in Sandy, Utah.
