Gerard "Jerry" John Collet

Gerard (Jerry) John Collet, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital with his wife and daughters on August 21, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on September 18, 1944, in Lewiston, Maine, Jerry lived his early years in the heart of Maine before embarking on a life filled with achievements and contributions.

Jerry was a proud veteran, enlisting in the Navy after high school in 1964. He served honorably during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Walke, a Navy destroyer and later transitioned into the Navy reserves, allowing him to pursue his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, where he earned an associate's degree. He received his honorable discharge from the United States Military on March 30, 1970, receiving National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Vietnam Campaign Medals for his dedication, honor, and service.

In pursuit of opportunities, Jerry and his beloved wife, Pauline Raymonde Poulin, whom he married on August 2, 1969, moved to California. There, Jerry found a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC), a pivotal project that bridged the federal government and Stanford University. His expertise in engineering contributed significantly to photon particle research, leaving a lasting impact on the field.

As Jerry and Pauline raised their daughters Rachel and Lisa while in California, he entered a new chapter in life as a highly successful official for United States Track and Field. Jerry became known as one of the most accomplished officials in this sport, serving as the Head Starter in numerous community, NCAA, and Olympic Track and Field meets. His dedication and passion for athletics led to his induction into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing his countless contributions and support for athletes.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry had a deep love for woodworking, creating beautiful furniture and projects for family and friends. His genuine and giving nature made him a cherished presence in the lives of those around him, always finding ways to help others overcome challenges with kindness and creativity.

Jerry was also an active member of the Catholic community at St. Joseph's the Worker Catholic Church, where he and Pauline participated in various events and holidays, enjoying the fellowship with the Seniors of St. Joseph's.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (76); daughters Lisa (51) and Rachel (49), and their husbands Ben Wheeler (50), and Corbin Archer (48), and Corbin and Lisa’s two children William (18) and Kelly (14); and a legacy of love and generosity that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan.

Jerry’s spirit and contributions to both his family and community will be missed but never forgotten.
