Geraldine Ness

Our loving mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully the morning of February 7th at the age of 85 due to age related natural causes.  She spent her last days surrounded by the love of her family.  As her health declined, her great grand children would always put a smile on her face.

Geraldine Ottesen Ness, known as Geri to all around her, was born in Salt Lake City on June 16th, 1935 to Mary Leona Lambson and Andrew Sidney Ottesen.  She grew up and attended school in Midvale, Utah.  Geri was mother to Nancy Ness Holyoak (Robert), Eric John, Robert (Bobby) Allen, Steven Elliot, and Sandra Ness (Mark).  She raised her children in her West Valley home with her husband Norman Clarion Ness, deceased 1970.

Geri is survived by her 5 children, her brother Jimmy Ottesen, and sisters JoAnn Pantelakis and Bonnie Moon (John).  Her grandchildren Stacy Aren Reading, Bobby Jr. Ness, Joni Cassandra Houghton, and Jacob McGrath.  She also has 12 great grandchildren.

Geri worked as a medical receptionist at Holy Cross hospital for 35 years.  She was known for her punctuality and attention to detail under pressure.  She was proud of her volunteer work at the Harman Senior Reception Center assisting and caring for the elderly and helping with group outings.  She enjoyed being with family; the yearly trip to Lake Powell on the houseboat was a highlight for her.  She always loved a good deal and a favorite past time of hers was shopping and searching for a good buy.  She enjoyed watching western movies, traveling with Jim and JoAnn, the home shopping channel, decorating her kitchen with roosters, collecting bird houses and elephants, thrift store shopping, feeding the stray cats, and her Red Hat Society membership.

Geri was extremely stable and patient.  When things got difficult and times were hard, Geri would persevere with a positive attitude.  She had a generous and giving heart.  Geri would give all she had to help family and friends.

Memorial services will be held Friday, February 19, at 1 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale.
