Gerald Warren Hansen, a man whose journey began on May 9th, 1938, and came full circle on the same date in 2024. Born to Warren B. Hansen and Martha (Pat) Helen Simon Hansen, Gerald's life was one of Faith, craftmanship, and service.
In the 1950s, Gerald served his country in the Navy, embodying the values of dedication and courage. His adventurous spirit and love for Harley Davidson’s led him to motorcycle racing and mechanics early in his life, it was obvious he was gifted with machinery. He continued to apply that skill in several aspects of his life.
Gerald's commitment to his family was evident when he married the love of his life on March 12th, 1960, and later, in 1963, they chose to be sealed for eternity before God in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Gerald's profound love for his wife, Dianne Elizabeth Swan Hansen, was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished every moment with Dianne, and their bond was a testament to true love's enduring strength. Now, we believe Gerald has returned to where he truly belongs, we find comfort in envisioning him in Dianne's loving arms, reunited in an eternal embrace. They created a legacy of love and faith, a bond that we know continues beyond this earthly realm.
His passion for creation shone brightly in his garage, where he built sand buggies, and his love for tractors became a symbol of service to his neighbors and a highlight in the 4th of July parade. Gerald's craftsmanship extended to wielding, mechanics, metals, and wood, with hobbies that included making jewelry and crafting walking sticks and wooden canes.
As a man of faith, Gerald was made a seventy on October 14th, 1971, ordained by A Theodore Tuttle. He served in the church in various capacities, from the Bishopric to the high counsel, and in many stake and ward leadership callings. His favorite calling was serving in the House of the Lord at the Jordan River Temple, where he dedicated over 28 years of service as a temple worker, a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to his Savior.
Gerald's legacy is also carried on through his beloved children: Holly Smith and spouse Shane, Penny Rawlins, Jerry Hansen and spouse Becky, David Hansen, the late Sandra Hansen, and Christopher Hansen. Each of them reflects a facet of their father's vast love and character.
As we reflect on Gerald's life, we pay tribute to a man who was not only a devoted father and husband, a talented craftsman, and a beloved neighbor. His presence will be missed especially in those quiet moments when we seek his comfort, see his woodworking, and beautiful jewelry. In those moments we will remember his love.
