George William Shell, Jr.

George William Shell, Jr.

George William Shell, Jr. passed away surrounded by family on December 1, 2017 at age 87.  He was born November 30, 1930 in Payson, Utah to George William Shell and Elfreda Olive Limb Shell.

He married Anna Mae Boyington on September 3, 1952 in the Manti Temple.  They were married 65 years.  He served in the U.S. Army in Germany between 1954 and 1955.  He attended Snow College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University.  He later obtained his Master's Degree in mathematics from the University of Utah.  He was a math teacher for many years in the Jordan School District, teaching at Mt. Jordan Jr. High and Hillcrest High School.  An excellence in mathematics award for secondary school teachers was named after him. He later served as an elementary school principal at Edgemont Elementary and Southland Elementary before retiring in 1987. He served as a chairman of the Jordan Credit Union.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and honorably served in a multitude of callings.

George is survived by his wife, Anna Mae and children, Phillip (Katie), Georgann, Frieda Franchina (Brad), Lloyd (Lauriann); 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Survived by siblings, Sylvia Peterson (Val), Jack (Jeanne), Verla Richardson Johnson (Scoop), and Max (Sandi).  Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Golda Maughan (Steve) and Dolly Bell (Marvin).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at Draper 2nd Ward, 1617 E. 12700 S., Draper. Family and friends may call Friday, December 8, 2017 at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, 6-8 p.m., and again Saturday, 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church.  Interment, Draper Cemetery, Draper, UT.
