November 8, 1933 — July 31, 2016

George H. Padjen

Our dear husband, father, brother, and grandfather, George Padjen quietly passed away at home early Sunday surrounded by family. He is now with his "sweetie," Carol, the love of his life who passed away in March 2014. George was a unique character that truly made an impact on all who met him. His brutal honesty, quick wit, and humor always made him a pleasure to be with. Any relative who was asked, "Are you related to George Padjen?" knew they were either going to get a warm and zealous welcome or have to make a quick getaway!

George was born November 8, 1933 to Ivan Padjen (Deda) and Anna Rukavina Padjen (Baba) in Midvale, Utah. He graduated from Jordan High earning 1st Team All State Football honors in 1951, the only year he played football. George married Carol Lee Whitlock Padjen, his partner for life, in 1957 and had two sons. George was a tireless and industrious entrepreneur. He learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm in Old Midvale and then made a career of working concrete and construction during the day. At night, he operated several clubs and restaurants through the years. George could almost always be found regaling friends and his large family with wild tales from bygone eras. George was known for barbecuing large quantities of any kind of meat for most of his life, a skill he learned from his father. These barbecues were always an enjoyable all day event for large gatherings of family, friends, and welcome strangers, providing a one of a kind experience and a delicious meal to all. George's gravelly laugh, trademark grin - showing off that gap between his two front teeth, and the "mischievous twinkle in his eye" will be sorely missed.

George is survived by his two sons Mark (Laurie) and Curtis (Cristina), adoring grandchildren Emily, Lindsey, Thomas, Elisabeth, and Michael Padjen, extended grandchildren Cirbie and Antonia Sangroniz, Aubrey (Josh) Merrill, Amber Finnerty, Sarah (Chris) Tuttle, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his loving wife Carol, his parents, brothers, Nick, John, Joe, Lee, Matt, and sister, Patricia (Pat).

George was honored in a private family service held previously. A gathering celebrating George's life will be held Thursday, August 4th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM at St. Therese Catholic Church, 624 Lennox (7870 S.) Street, Midvale, UT 84047. Online condolences may be offered at www.goffmortuary.com

The family wishes to thank all "Angels" who cared for George; The Hospice Team at Peak: Nicole, Jessica, Anna, and Dani; The Care Team: Virginia, Lynda, Lauren (Boots), Julie, and Anna, George's wonderful nieces Marci and Debbie.
