George C. O’Very

George C. O'Very passed away at his home on July 5, 2019, his 57th wedding anniversary, after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born on September 7, 1942, in Nampa, Idaho, to George and Ruth O'Very. He had one brother, Jack, whom he looked up to and loved.

After graduating from Nampa High School in 1960, he attended Boise Junior College. On July 5, 1962, he married the love of his life and best friend, Lynda Lee Stephenson, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised six children.

George was kind, quick-witted, spiritual and hard-working. In his younger years, he often took on janitorial work in the early mornings and/or late evenings, in addition to his full-time job. He did this so that his kids could have every advantage possible. The value of hard work was passed on to his children through example and lecture. That lecture, however, most likely ended on the topic of morality, as did all of his lectures. One of his most famous sayings was, "If you aren't 15 minutes early, you're 10 minutes late."

A huge sports fan, George loved all things BYU and he had season tickets for football until he was unable to attend the games. One of the highlights of his last few years was a trip he took to San Diego to attend some Atlanta Braves games with his sons. He was equally as happy to attend games at any level, including high school sports, even when he didn't personally know any of the players. He was very athletic and played in church sports throughout his life, even making it to All-Church in basketball.

George was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served faithfully in every calling he was given. After retirement, he and Lynda served a Church Service Mission at the Salt Lake City Family History Library for two years, and then as temple workers for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth O'Very; his brother, Jack O'Very; one son, Byron Todd O'Very; and one great granddaughter, Scarlett Hope Gamel.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda O'Very; and six children: David (Sabrina) O'Very of Lehi; Tamra (Raymond) Williams of Layton; Michella (Lans) Jameson of Avon, IN; Kelli (Mike) Speth of West Jordan; Brandon (Michelle) O'Very of Saratoga Springs; and Colby (Denise) O'Very of San Diego, CA; 23 Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Jordan Utah Stake Center, 2666 W 7000 S, West Jordan. Friends and family may call Friday morning from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the West Jordan City Cemetery.
