George Maurice Dunn

George Maurice Dunn passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday September 28, 2017 at the age of 63 in the University of Utah Health Sciences Center surrounded by several members of his family. He was born the day before Thanksgiving, November 25, 1953 to Jay Beniere Dunn and Georgia Joan Hall Dunn (Herod) as the third of nine children. He was lovingly known by several names; Maury, Maurice, Moochie (which he hated), Mario, big brother, little brother, uncle, dad, grandpa, and friend. He graduated from South High School (1972) in Salt Lake City. For many years he was a long haul Semi Truck Driver and traveled the country. In later years his jobs included unloading semis in a feed yard, Security Guard, Flagger, Short Order Cook, and Health Care Aide. He met the love of his life, Cherie Moore, who survives, 23 years ago in a bar and said One dance and I was hooked. He is also survived by siblings; Margaret (Roque)Thomas, Samuel Dunn, Siouxanne Mease, George Allen (Stephanie) Herod, twin brothers; Jay (Leriza) & Oliver (Chere) Dunn, and two step siblings Steve North and Venna Winter. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two siblings; James Dunn and Wendy Schneider. He lived his life by his own set of rules and staunchly defended them to the end. His life was not always easy and he faced many struggles along the way. Though in poor health, he never gave up his zest for life. He loved his frequent trips to the diner with his brother Sam, arguing with his sister, Siouxanne RN about germs, and was known as the Pied Piper of Children. Kids were drawn to him. They loved him and his tricks and fun stories. He never cut his hair and never threw anything away. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be Saturday October 28, 2017 @ 11am at Aspen Funeral Home 459 W. Universal Circle, Sandy, Utah 84070. Our family would like to offer our sincerest thanks and gratitude to the amazing staff, nurses, and doctors of U of U Health Sciences Center for their wonderful, skilled, and amazing care of Maury while he was in their care.
